Description:
The "cantaloupe" is named after a castle near Tivoli, Italy. Often served as a light snack or dessert, cantaloupes has a light, sweet, orange-colored flesh surrounded by a thin khaki rind. The best cantaloupes are heavy for their size, have a nice fragrance and yield slightly to pressure at the bottom end. June to September is high season for America cantaloupes.
For serving, cut melon in half and remove the seeds for best taste. Cantaloupe is an excellent source of vitamin A, high in vitamin C and a good source of folate.
